Clear Title

Definition - What does Clear Title mean?

A clear title refers to the ownership of a property that is free from any claims or disputed interest. This type of property is clear and available for sale. The process of checking a property for any claims is known as a "title search", which is usually carried out by a title company. Property that doesn’t have a clear title is known as a “cloud on title”.

Justipedia explains Clear Title

Before the purchaser buys any property, he/she usually enlists the services of a title company, which checks the title for any disputes or claims, and provides a report to the buyer. Insurance companies, before issuing title insurance, also make use of this report.
