Definition - What does Confession mean?

The term confession can be defined as the statement made by a person who has been charged with certain crimes that he or she actually committed it. Official persons such as an attorney or other representatives of law enforcement agencies are responsible for recording the confession in written form. This document is then usually signed and read by the accused.

In case the defendant is unable to read or speak English, then he or she has full rights to ask for a translator for the confession or for it to be read aloud in the court. It is very important to mention that the confessions should be made freely and voluntarily and without any external pressure.
