Definition - What does Paid Time Off mean?

Paid time off is a term used in employment that denotes the accumulation of time that an employee has earned by way of time off, holiday time and any other paid leave that resulted from their course of employment.

Paid time off can usually be taken as it is earned or saved up, and taken at one time. It can also be partly deferred for a cash alternative.

All days would be considered including holidays such as Christmas and Easter, which the employer would be required, by law, to pay for (while the employee does not have to work).
