Definition - What does Testamentary Disposition mean?

A testamentary disposition is a voluntary transfer of property from a deceased person to someone that they left the asset or property to in their will.

Any inheritence by a beneficiary is considered a testamentary disposition because it was something that was disposed of or given away as a result of words written in a person's testament.

With a testamentary disposition, the property does not transfer until the demise of the owner or by their willingness. The person might transfer the property in different ways, including through using an inter-vivos transfer, a voluntary transfer or through an inter-vivos trust.
