The term wanton is associated with negligence and is used to describe carelessness at an extreme level. It refers to reckless and unconcerned behavior towards the safety of a property or a person. Wanton can also be defined as a disregard for others rights. Wanton simply means unrestrained carelessness.

Wanton can be explained with an example. A person speeding past a school or college when there is an active risk of students getting hurt by the act, or a person shooting in a busy, crowded place is an example of wanton acts. If someone gets killed as a result of such an act, the person responsible can face a murder charge.
