Inspection of Documents

Definition - What does Inspection of Documents mean?

Inspection of documents refers to the right of a party to copy and examine the documents of the opposing party. These copies and documents are usually relevant to the case. Inspection of documents require a legal request. The request should clearly indicate what type of documents are required so that the opposing party may arrange them.

Justipedia explains Inspection of Documents

If the opposing party denies to produce the document or holds back the request without any genuine reason, then the party requesting the documents can take a legal action which in this case would be a court order to produce the document and (or) pay the penalty in case of failure.
