Definition - What does Trader mean?

The term "trader" refers to a person (in U.S. income tax) who makes use of property and real estate for business. Typically, a trader makes several sales and purchases during the course of the year. This sale and purchase of property is different to a few sales or purchases made by someone for investment purposes.

Justipedia explains Trader

Traders will not be able to exercise the right to defer capital gains resulting from the exchange of some other property. Usually, consultation with an attorney or CPA is required for details in this regard. Trader, as a term, is not defined by the Internal Revenue Code and therefore a reference is required for court cases dealing with traders.
