Home Inspection

Definition - What does Home Inspection mean?

A home inspection is an examination that is performed by a professional inspector on a home to determine its quality. Home inspectors are often hired by potential buyers of property to make sure that there are no underlying risks to the property which could effect its value or result in damage.

In the context of the law, the purchasing of real estate is legally binding, so buyers commonly use home inspections to make sure all is in order before they officially purchase the property.

Justipedia explains Home Inspection

There are a number of things that can be wrong with a home and present a risk to a buyer. For example, there could be a faulty electrical system which is a big fire risk. There could also be structural damage, water damage, fire damage, etc.

It can be difficult for a person who is not qualified to look for these risks to be able to find and understand them. This is why many people use home inspectors to evaluate properties before they buy them.
