Chadwick D. Smith
Chadwick Smith joined Merritt, Webb, Wilson & Caruso, PLLC in 2002 and worked in the firm’s Durham office until moving to a new position heading the firm’s Charlotte office in 2003. He has spent the last seven years focusing his practice on the defense of the accused. In that time, Mr. Smith has handled thousands of cases, ranging from minor traffic violations to felonies. Mr. Smith has received seven customer service awards from Pre-Paid Legal Services, Inc. and in 2003 was recognized at their annual national conference with a Member’s Choice Award.
Mr. Smith graduated summa cum laude from Campbell University in 1997 with a Bachelor of Science in Social Science and was recognized by the university with the J.P. Gardner Award as the most outstanding graduate in the social sciences. He served as the captain of the varsity tennis team at Campbell and in 1996 he was named by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association as an Academic All-American and president of the university’s student-athlete advisory committee. He was also twice elected as the student body Treasurer for the University and was selected to represent the University at a number of conferences and symposiums. Mr. Smith graduated cum laude from the North Carolina Central University School of Law in 2000. He was a Wheeler Foundation scholarship recipient while studying at Central. He also served as a senior editor on the NCCU Law Journal and worked as graduate assistant providing research for a manuscript on the law of evidence.
Mr. Smith has furthered the work of a number of non-profit organizations with his time and his contributions. His community involvement has included being president of his community association and coaching youth soccer. Mr. Smith is a member of the Mecklenburg County Criminal Defense Lawyers Association.
