The law is a second career for Dan Lawrence: before attending law school, he worked for six years as a technical writer, programmer, and project manager for several Kansas City-area software companies. That experience provides him with a rare and valuable perspective on all issues where the law and technology meet, ranging from routine electronic discovery issues to complex intellectual property disputes. Mr. Lawrence’s knowledge of networking principles—how, where, and in what forms information is stored, and how it can become lost and destroyed—is invaluable to the resolution of e-discovery issues that have become common in even moderately complex litigation.
Mr. Lawrence also works extensively on both the transaction and litigation sides of Oil & Gas Law. He has represented both producers and royalty owners, through class actions and individually. With other members of the firm’s Oil & Gas practice, he has extensively explored royalty payment and lease-related issues that are of paramount concern to Kansas landowners. Mr. Lawrence has also represented landowners in connection with eminent domain proceedings related to interstate gas and oil pipelines, underground gas storage fields, and other, similar condemnations.
