Farhang Heydari joined NSB as a Johnnie L. Cochran, Jr. Fellow in 2013. Farhang brings experience working on a wide variety of social justice issues relating to civil rights, race, and poverty. While at Columbia Law School, he worked with the Center for Appellate Litigation to represent indigent criminal defendants in New York State courts, and was a member of the Mass Incarceration Clinic working with federal and state prisoners challenging their conditions of confinement. As Director of Columbia Law’s Society for Immigrant and Refugee Rights and as an intern with the Legal Aid Society’s Immigration Law Unit, Farhang advocated on behalf of immigrants, refugees, and their families. Farhang also worked on political participation and economic justice issues while at the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund.
