James A. Ouellette
After 21 years as an Officer in the U.S. Navy, Jim retired from the JAG Corps and joined Hull Barrett in September 2015, bringing with him years of experience in criminal defense; estate planning; contract law; international law; civil litigation; national security and cyber law; and employment law. After attending Notre Dame Law School in 2001 he served in litigation and General Counsel roles at Naval Air Station, Pensacola, Washington D.C., Okinawa Japan, and Omaha, Nebraska. After earning his Master of Arts in National Security and Strategic Studies in 2010, Jim also served as a diplomat and legal liaison for the U.S. Embassy in Rome, Italy. During his career, Jim has worked in some capacity in almost every substantive area of law, defending service members at courts-martial and administrative hearings, mediating employee disputes, handling litigation under the Freedom of Information and Privacy Acts, drafting hundreds of wills and trusts, litigating Constitutional Claims and employment matters in Federal court, and handling appeals before the Board of Veterans Appeals. With ties to community and veteran’s groups and broad experience in the law, Jim helps strengthen the important bond between Hull Barret and the CSRA’s active duty and retired service-members, veteran business-owners, government contractors, and civic organizations.
