James G. Whitley
JAMES G. WHITLEY was first admitted to practice law in New Mexico in 1978. Upon admission, Mr. Whitley joined the Jones, Gallegos, Snead & Wertheim law firm in Santa Fe, New Mexico as an associate, retiring from that firm as a partner/director in 1998. The Jones Firm is a midsized law firm focusing on complex civil litigation in New Mexico, which included, during Mr. Whitley's association with the firm, the longest jury trial in New Mexico, the largest class action tried in the state and settlement of a complex will contest in the Georgia O'Keefe estate.
Mr. Whitley has practiced in the areas of administrative law, including telecommunications and transportation, workers compensation, personal injury, wrongful death, real estate title litigation, oil and gas, foreclosure/lender liability defense, eminent domain, inverse condemnation, and multiple real estate and business transactions. His practice has included participating as lead or associate counsel in over seven jury trials, more than twelve bench trials, and numerous adjudicatory hearings before the New Mexico State Corporation Commission. In over thirty years of practice, he has also briefed and argued approximately eighteen reported cases in the New Mexico and Colorado state appellate courts as well as the United States Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals. Mr. Whitley is AV rated by Martindale-Hubbell and is listed in the 2010 Martindale-Hubbell Bar Register of Preeminent Lawyers.
