Jim’s practice is focused on client advocacy in two primary areas: civil litigation and legislative affairs. Jim has been involved in over 100 jury trials and is currently serving as the president of the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA) Iowa Chapter, whose membership requires certification of trial experience. Additionally, he is a member of the Iowa Academy of Trial Lawyers, past chairman of the American Bar Association Government Relations Section, and a board member of the The Advocacy Group (TAG) – a national and international group of the premier lobbyists in each state and internationally. In 2015 Jim was named the Centerville High School Distinguished Alumni Award from his alma mater in Centerville, Iowa. Also in 2015, Jim was nominated and confirmed as the President of the National I Club, the University of Iowa’s national organization of supporters of Iowa Hawkeyes athletics.
