John C. Ryland


John C. Ryland practices in the areas of family law, personal injury, criminal defense, civil litigation, medical malpractice defense, and commercial litigation. He was admitted to the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Tennessee in 1994, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit in 2000.

A native of Fort Knox, Kentucky, Mr. Ryland received a B.A. from the University of Tennessee in 1990. He earned a J.D. with honors from the University of Memphis in 1994. While in law school, Mr. Ryland was the recipient of the American Jurisprudence Award in Evidence, Criminal Law, Debtor-Creditor, Business Organizations II and the West Award in Secured Transactions, Business Organizations II. He also was a member of the University of Memphis Law Review in 1992-1994. Mr. Ryland is the author of legal articles, including “When Policies Collide: The Conflict Between CERCLA and the Bankruptcy Code” 24 Memphis St. L. Rev. (1994).

Mr. Ryland received the 2015 Top 10 Attorney Award for excellence in the field of Family Law from the National Academy of Family Law Attorneys.
