John H. “Topper” Johntz, Jr. has been a member of the firm since 1965 and is a nationally-recognized expert in the field of family law, having at one point been selected by The National Law Journal as one of the thirty-eight leaders in family law in the United States. He has been continuously listed in each edition of the book The Best Lawyers in America since its inception in 1983.Topper was the lead draftsman of both the modern domestic relations statutes of the State of Kansas and the Johnson County Guidelines used for divorce, child custody and financial dispositions. He has lectured extensively to legal, accounting, medical and lay audiences; has written a chapter in the book, Tax Aspects of Litigation; and has made seminar appearances for the Practicing Law Institute in New York City and San Francisco. As a member of the Kansas Board of Law Examiners, Topper was involved in writing and grading the Kansas Bar Exam from 1978 until 2005. He has been admitted to practice in the United States Supreme Court and the Federal and State Courts of Kansas.
