Raised in Southeast Albuquerque, Leon graduated as the co-faculty award recipient with his law partner, Chris Lucero, for their leadership and service to the community while attending the University of New Mexico School of Law.
Upon graduation Leon worked in Santa Fe, New Mexico as a trial attorney where he learned the ins and outs of the criminal justice system. Next, Leon worked at the American Civil Liberties Union of New Mexico (ACLU), one of the nation’s largest civil rights organizations, as a staff attorney. While at the ACLU, he successfully represented clients whose constitutional rights were violated. These cases included Illegal Search and Seizures, Freedom of Speech, Religious Freedom, Racial Profiling, Parental Rights, and Student’s Rights.
