Mary T. Keating
Keating is currently President of the Maryland Employment Lawyers Association(MELA). She serves on the board and is Treasurer of the Maryland Volunteer Lawyers Service, dedicated to providing pro bono legal services to those who cannot afford representation. She also serves on the board of New Pathways, which provides housing and life skills training to young people who age out of the foster care program, and she serves as the Project Director of the Women’s Law Center’s Employment Law Hotline. She is active in her church and her children’s schools, and serves as a mentor to other lawyers. In addition, she has held many committee assignments and chairs with the Bar Association of Baltimore City and Maryland State Bar Association.
Trained as a mediator, Mary Keating believes that people can often resolve their differences through improved communication. If that is not possible, however, resolution in a court is not war, but a civilized alternative to caving in to those with more economic power. Through the Women’s Law Center, and as the President of the Maryland Employment Lawyers Association, Keating is involved in legislative advocacy on behalf of employees on various issues, including pregnancy discrimination, and workplace bullying. (Please feel free to contact me if you would like to share your story with legislators.) Keating also is a a member of and participates in the National Employment Lawyers Association’s affiliate activities.
