Mason Kerns is an associate at Mase Lara practicing in the areas of civil litigation, white collar criminal defense, and maritime defense.
Prior to joining Mase Lara, Mr. Kerns served the indigent of Miami as an assistant public defender from 2011 to 2014. In his first year out of law school, Mr. Kerns represented accused juveniles in nearly 50 bench trials. He handled exclusively jury matters over the next two years, trying nearly 30 jury trials in mostly first- or second-degree felony cases. Mr. Kerns has also represented clients in appellate and post-conviction matters and has argued before the Third District Court of Appeal.
Mr. Kerns has defended persons accused of an array of offenses, including fraud, drug trafficking, traffic-related fatalities, and computer crimes. He has deposed and cross-examined experts in an array of fields, including forensic computer and latent fingerprint analysts. Mr. Kerns has won trial acquittals for multiple clients facing life in prison or its functional equivalent.
