Ms. Smith has recently joined the firm after spending over 20 years working as an Assistant State’s Attorney at the Anne Arundel County State’s Attorney’s Office, including 6 years as Chief of the State’s Attorney District Court Division for both Annapolis and Glen Burnie. While a prosecutor, Ms. Smith handled thousands of criminal and traffic matters in Maryland’s District, Circuit and Juvenile courts, from DUI cases to Homicides, including hundreds of Jury and Court trials. In addition to her own caseload, Ms. Smith helped train most of the new prosecutors coming into the State’s Attorney’s office. She focused in domestic matters and over the past 4 years has been the sole felony prosecutor assigned to handle all Family and Domestic Violence and Human Trafficking cases in Anne Arundel County, as well as all U-Visa Certification Requests. As a leader in the field of Family and Domestic violence, Ms. Smith spent years training police officers, Judges, prosecutors and other lawyers on these issues. She was selected to serve on the Board of Directors of the Maryland Network Against Domestic Violence and chaired the Network’s Legislative Committee, participating in the passage of numerous important pieces of Family and Domestic Violence reform legislation over the past fourteen years. She spearheaded the creation and formation of the Strangulation Response Team, an award winning, comprehensive, multi-agency approach to developing evidence of and prosecuting one of the most lethal forms of domestic violence. She has received numerous awards recognizing her work in the area of Family and Domestic Violence and has been honored by two of Maryland’s Governors with their Governor’s Citations for Outstanding Service to Maryland Crime Victims.
