Following graduation from the University of Arizona with a degree in journalism, Samuel had a short stint as a reporter with the Tucson Citizen before joining the U.S. Peace Corps. He spent two years teaching English in the eastern European country of Moldova. In addition to his teaching duties, he also wrote community grant proposals and on community development programs.
The Phoenix native took the Law School Admissions Test (LSAT) while volunteering abroad because he knew he wanted to become an attorney. He earned his law degree from at the University of Denver's Sturm College of Law, where he was staff editor of the Transportation Law Journal, a board member with the Employment Law and Labor Society and part of the winning Student Trial Lawyers Association's CU/DU Cup team.
