Shalanda concentrates her practice in the areas of creditor’s rights, commercial transactions and litigation, and community associations. Shalanda assists lenders with problem loan workouts and loan modification negotiations, residential and commercial foreclosures, other real estate transactions, and note purchase and sale transactions. She advises and assists community associations with the administration of association business and enforcement of the association’s governing documents. She represents business clients, including small businesses and community associations, in civil litigation to enforce contract rights, defend against breach of contract claims, and to collect delinquent accounts. As part of her practice she regularly appears before the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia, and Virginia’s state courts to litigate civil cases and enforce judgments. Additionally, Shalanda is qualified to practice before the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Virginia, where she helps creditors to understand and assert their rights in bankruptcy cases by filing proofs of claims, seeking relief from the bankruptcy court automatic stay, and negotiate reaffirmation agreements.
