Whitney Cleaver Smith joined the firm in 2009 and is licensed to practice law in Maryland,Washington, D.C., and Virginia.Her legal practice focuses on estate law, business matters, andpersonal injury.In addition, she is a commercial litigator who has also handled matters before theCourt of Appeals, Maryland's highest court, and Court of Special Appeals.
Whitney has extensive experience preparing wills, powers of attorney, and advanced medicaldirectives for our clients. She has also assisted clients with estate administration and probate,which sometimes includes litigation of estate disputes.
Whitney’s business/commercial law practice consists of corporate governance, employment, andtransactions. She has assisted clients in forming new businesses and managing risk. Whitney hasdrafted and negotiated numerous business contracts. Although she seeks to negotiate and resolvebusiness disputes, Whitney has the litigation experience necessary to represent a client's interests in court.
Prior to joining the Alexander & Cleaver team, Whitney worked as an intern for SenatorBenjamin L. Cardin on the Senate Judiciary Committee on Capitol Hill. Before that she workedas an intern for Steny H. Hoyer, Minority Leader of the US House of Representatives, and as asummer associate with the United States Attorney’s Office in Baltimore.
Whitney resides in Washington, DC with her husband, Pete and their two dogs.
